Welcome
The Downs (Down syndrome) Development
Council, DDC, is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization and
volunteer support group established in 1978 by parents of children
with Down syndrome.
Our
mission is to promote a greater acceptance and understanding of Down
syndrome, by enlightening the broader community to recognize the
individuality, uniqueness and capabilities of individuals with Ds.

Mundelein Area’s American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO)
Region 372 has developed a VIP (Very Important Player) program
for children with disabilities.
Fall 2008 Schedule
Our games are 9 am-10:15 on Fields
A, B and C at the upper fields of the Mundelein Community Park,
Coaches arrive at 8:30am and Buddies at 8:45.

Free—Come Children, Sing! Online Music Classes for
Infants, Babies and Toddlers
The Come Children Sing Institute is offering

whatever your musical background or the developmental level

"Extend" is looking for boys and girls with special needs
who are interested in cheerleading. If you are interested

The Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics Center,

Special Needs Swimming Lessons
There is an awesome swimming program at the Vernon Hills
YMCA for special needs children. There is 1 on 1 instruction
for those too young to swim and the program is supported by
a pediatric therapist. The cost for both members and
non-members is $86.00. For more information, call Mary

Need help teaching your child to ride a bike?
People call Richard Klein the Bike Doctor for his work in
teaching special-needs children to ride their bikes. During
the process, Klein replaces bike tires with a series of
eight custom-built rollers. His process usually takes four
to five days. Easter Seals has offered camps featuring Mr.
Klein and his “Lose The Training Wheels” program. For more

New Mandatory Individual Education Plans
(IEP) Forms & Response to Intervention.
In a recent article in the newsletter for
the Community High School District 117, Director of
Special Education Roberta Seigel related that the
Illinois State Board of Education has issued new
mandatory IEP forms. These new forms could
possibly be used to standardize the various froms used
in the construction of student's IEP across the state.

Sue Sheinkop, a pediatrician from Lake Shore Pediatrics, will review
the testing that should be done for a child who has Ds.
MOVIE LOVER’S CLUB Presents:
“Bolt”
On November 22th your family is invited to the Libertyville Theatre, 708
N. Milwaukee in downtown Libertyville. The movie is early Saturday
morning at 10:00 am (arrive by 9:45am) and is free to our families.
Popcorn and pop are available to purchase, and who doesn’t like popcorn
for breakfast? This gives our kids a chance to sit together and become
familiar with their peers.

DDC Christmas party

Pack up the family
and come join DDC families and friends at our Christmas
Party!
There will be plenty of food, holiday music, crafts, and of
course, SANTA!!
Santa will be arriving about 3:00 pm and He
will be bringing gifts for everyone that RSVP’s by DECEMBER
1st. So please call and let us know: how many children,
their ages and names, so he can start promptly making his
list for the kids. Please RSVP by December 1st.
Please do not arrive before 1:30 pm due to the masses still
going on per the Church’s request.
If anyone would like to help set up, clean up, help the kids
with crafts & coloring or can make some sweet treats for
dessert or appetizers, please feel free to call me. Can’t
wait to see everyone!
